CBL is an about 1.8km long dual two-lane carriageway with a cycle track and a footway across Junk Bay. Mainly composed of marine viaduct across Junk Bay, CBL connects Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel (currently under construction) and Wan Po Road to and from LOHAS Park or Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, to relieve the heavy traffic on TKO Tunnel, TKO Town Centre and Wan Po Road.

Highlight
Steel Arch Bridge Steel Arch Bridge

The main bridge of CBL and Southern Bridge are both steel arch bridges, echoing with the Northern Bridge over Junk Bay and Eastern Channel.

CBL

The longest steel arch bridge in Hong Kong

Highest point of bridge arch above sea level about 70 metres Width of bridge 34 metres Longest Arch Bridge in Hong Kong, main span 200 metres The weight of Double-Arch Steel Bridge is about 10,000 tons equal to the weight of 50 unladen Boeing 747 aircrafts 雙拱跨橋重約10,000噸,相等於約50架波音747珍寶客機空載的重量

Methodology of Erection of CBL Main Bridge

Erection of steel arch bridge by Float-over Method

1

Moving to a position 30 metres from the bridge piers for final preparation

移至距離橋墩30米位置作最後準備

2

Moving in between the bridge piers during high tide window

在高水位時移進橋墩之間

Advanced Technology & Material

Both CBL and Southern Bridges have extensively adopted Grade S690QL high-strength steel in their steel bridge structures. Compared with common structural steel, Grade S690QL high-strength steel processes greater tensile strength, enabling the bridges to use less material under the same loading condition. It also enhances the aesthetic appearance of the bridges, as well as scales down the piers and substructure, thus reducing the carbon footprint and improving the sustainability of the projects.

High-strength steel with high tensile strength is ductile for different shapes, making the bridges appear to be light-weighted High-strength steel with high tensile strength is ductile for different shapes, making the bridges appear to be light-weighted
